Kat Burki's Vitabiome Active Skin Optimizer is a 1-step Skin Microbiome Balancer

'I was inspired to create our Vitabiome Active Skin Optimizer after seeing my son struggle with bad bacteria overload, breakouts and an imbalanced microbiome from not taking proper care of his skin before and after playing sports,' says founder Kat Burki.
"I was inspired to create our Vitabiome Active Skin Optimizer after seeing my son struggle with bad bacteria overload, breakouts and an imbalanced microbiome from not taking proper care of his skin before and after playing sports," says founder Kat Burki.

Kat Burki's new Vitabiome Active Skin Optimizer promises to be a one-step, microbiome-friendly skin care regimen.

Key ingredients include:

  • prebiotic fruit ferments, ginseng and polysaccharides to support the health and restoration of the microbiome to prevent breakouts and boost the complexion's glow
  • konjac root and tea tree oil to minimize sebum production and cut non-beneficial skin bacteria
  • hydrating snow mushrooms, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines in a manner similar to hyaluronic acid
  • antioxidant-rich vitamin C and schisandra berry to support the skin barrier for moisture retention, collagen stimulation and defense against environmental stressors

The  Vitabiome Active Skin Optimizer is launching DTC and at Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale's for $88, supported by an NYC pop-up.

Global Cosmetic Industry reached out to brand founder and CEO Kat Burki to learn more about the launch.

What was behind the development of the Vitabiome Active Skin Optimizer?

'We saw an opportunity to create an all-in-one product that no other beauty brand has done before that addresses common skin care needs that are a result of the biome dysbiosis,' says founder Kat Burki."We saw an opportunity to create an all-in-one product that no other beauty brand has done before that addresses common skin care needs that are a result of the biome dysbiosis," says founder Kat Burki.Burki: I was inspired to create our Vitabiome Active Skin Optimizer after seeing my son struggle with bad bacteria overload, breakouts and an imbalanced microbiome from not taking proper care of his skin before and after playing sports.

I wanted to create a new generation, multi-functional, and all-in-one microbiome skin spray to not only help him but anyone struggling with similar skin needs while leading active lifestyles.

You can use Vitabiome Active Skin Optimizer anytime on the go, before and after workouts, to balance your skin’s microbiome and prevent breakouts.

It can replace the lengthy morning skin care routine, just apply after cleanser and go. It can be reapplied during the day as needed to keep skin barrier performance at its peak.

All of our formulas utilize the proven principles of biochemistry of body healing, which is complete ingredient synergy to maximize potency, optimized for deeper absorption, to ensure the skin's own healing mechanisms for maximum results.

However, when talking about the microbiome, we are talking about the top microscopic level of the skin. It is when this delicate microbial balance is disturbed, we see skin breakouts, inflammation and other disorders.

This formula uses a proprietary combination of prebiotics, antimicrobials, and vitamin therapy to return the skin’s microbiome back to a healthy balance of beneficial bacteria so that it can regain balance, free of breakouts and inflammation.

What is the appeal on the shopper side for multifunctional beauty?

Burki: Many of our loyal customers live active lifestyles, play sports, or workout and we’ve seen a high demand for multi-functional, simpler skin care routines.

The probiotic skin care industry is expected to more than double over the next 10 years, from $313 million in 2023 to $682 million in 2033, and probiotic skin care was ranked a leading skin care trend changing the beauty landscape, alongside multifunctional, transparent and safe ingredients.

We saw an opportunity to create an all-in-one product that no other beauty brand has done before that addresses common skin care needs that are a result of the biome dysbiosis. By stabilizing the biome we are preventing breakouts, and repairing skin to a healthy state.

While the Vitabiome Active Skin Optimizer isn’t intended to replace your PM skin care regimen, AM it can follow the cleansing step while on the go making life easy when you need easy! Alternatively it can also fit right into your existing skin care routine, in between the essence/toner and serum steps.

What were the key targets of the formulation?

Burki: The Vitabiome Active Skin Optimizer was developed to address the microbiome, which lives at the very top surface layer of the skin, and it was created to promote the skin’s natural defenses, stabilize the skin’s biome, prevent acne breakouts, fortify the skin when active and repair the skin to a healthy state.

Our ingredients are paired very intentionally to work synergistically and provide you with your healthiest, most rejuvenated skin. That being said, the Optimizer is formulated specifically for the top microbial world of the skin, with a potent blend of probiotics, antimicrobials and antioxidants.

This grouping of ingredients includes bioferments, ginseng and polysaccharides which work together to provide the skin with antimicrobials, to battle bad bacterial, prebiotics to feed good bacteria, and deep vitamin therapy to restore the skin’s defenses and healing abilities for a break-out free, supple and glowing complexion.

Konjac root and tea tree oil are included in the formulation to battle unfriendly bacteria while reducing the skin’s overproduction of oils, and snow mushrooms deeply hydrate the skin while smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Antioxidant-rich vitamin C and schisandra berry are also incorporated to create a natural barrier to retain moisture and protect skin from environmental stressors while stimulating collagen production.

By balancing and strengthening the biome with the Vitabiome Active Skin Optimizer, we can go about our active day and finally put an end to the breakout cycle.

What does the brand have planned for the rollout?
